Museo Nacional de Aeronáutica de Argentina

Following on from my visit to Cruzex 2024 in Brazil, I took the opportunity to fly down to Buenos Aires to visit the Museo Nacional de Aeronáutica de Argentina, located at Morón Air Base, about 40 minutes from central Buenos Aires by car.

The Morón base is ‘active’, in as much as there are gate guards and you have to sign in and be escorted to the museum, however the only flying activities are civilian nowadays. It is about a 10 minute walk from the gate, although some mebers of the public, presumable Argentinian nationals were able to drive onto the base and to the museum.

The museum itself has some very interesting aircraft and of course there is special attention to The Malvinas – the ongoing dispute between Argentina and the UK surrounding the island in the South Atlantic – I took care not to discuss any of the conflict. That said, the museum staff were friendly and happy to talk about any of the exhibits with me.

In some areas the aircraft are quite densely packed, along with rope barriers, information displays and vaious artefacts and props making it difficult to get unobstructed views. Nevertheless, using my 28-200mm Nikon Z lens, mostly at 28mm, I was able to capture pretty much all the exhibits.

When I was there (a Sunday morning), it was fairly quiet and I was able to get images without people in the way.

Outside there is a small line up of aircraft, including an Avro Lincoln B2 and a Bristol 170 Freighter. Unfortunately you are not permitted to enter the area where they stored and on the day I was there it was raining heavily, so the zoom lens came in quite handy but I was limited to 3/4 front images of those aircraft.

It’s a really good museum, well worth the journey from the center of town – if you’re ever in the area, definitely pay it a visit.
